Overview

Wood-boring beetles, including bostrichid and anobiid species common in South Africa, can cause serious structural damage to roof timbers, flooring, and furniture. Infestations often go undetected until damage is significant.

Signs of infestation

• Small round exit holes (1–3mm) in timber surfaces
• Fine powdery dust (frass) below or around wooden structures
• Weakened, crumbling wood when pressure is applied
• Adult beetles found near windows in late summer

Our approach

We conduct a full timber inspection of roof voids, flooring, and structural elements. Where active infestation is confirmed, we apply borate-based treatments that penetrate the wood and eliminate larvae within the timber.

Prevention tips

Ensure roof spaces are well-ventilated, address any moisture ingress, and treat exposed timber with a preservative during renovations.
